Baby with cleft palate discussion in 'goat frenzy' started by suellen, mar 23, 2010. mar 23 i had one born this year... hers was only a cleft lip though... but she has done very well... she is 14 weeks old or so now??? cleft palates in goats. they have come up with an appliance that is. I had a kid born friday morning with a cleft palate. she is a beautiful nubian boer cross, but has some lip and gum malformations, also. at the advice of a friend who has raised thousands of kids, i decided not to intervene and let nature take it's course.. Just as important, the prenatal surgery completely restored palatal function, which allowed the goats to nurse as soon as they were born and to vocalize without impediments. the in utero-repaired palates had none of the scarring typically associated with postnatal cleft palate repairs..
